let's get to know each other
My name is Ellen Calles
I am a photographer based in Virginia but I grew up in Annapolis, Maryland surrounded by art, family, and the moments that shaped me into who I am today. Family has always been my foundation, and I learned early on the importance of supporting one another through love, consistency, and care. My mom is my greatest inspiration, teaching me at an early age through her strength, honesty, and kindness that no matter what you are going through, it's always about the moment and what you choose to make of it.

Why I love photography
Art has always been my escape and my language. I’ve been dancing since I was three, learning early on how movement could express what words couldn’t. Drawing and painting followed, from doodling in class so I could understand the world, to creating art projects because it felt natural. Art became the way I processed emotion, memory, and meaning.
Photography grew from that same place. I’ve always been drawn to the quiet beauty of sunsets and sunrises, to light as it changes. Over time, that love evolved into photographing people, not as subjects, but as stories. I’m inspired by candid moments, the in-between expressions, the unguarded seconds that feel honest and alive. Turning those moments into art is my way of translating emotion into something you can see and feel. Photography is more than an image; it is the art of life itself, honest, emotional, and alive in the moments we often overlook.
